Merrillville, Indiana (November 18, 2013) Cimcor today announced the newest version of their file integrity monitoring and compliance software CimTrak, version 2.0.6.17. This version provides customers with advanced capabilities available in no other IT integrity monitoring tool on the market today.
The latest iteration introduces two revolutionary new features that take IT security to a whole new level. CimTrak can now detect and track file reads as well as prevent file modifications. According to Robert Johnson, President, and CEO of Cimcor, “while these two features may seem like a logical evolution of the CimTrak product, their potential impact on IT security is nothing short of game-changing. Being able to monitor file reads has implications to the healthcare and intelligence communities.” Johnson goes on to add “the viewing of private or classified information is very much front of mind in the IT security community as well as the public at large.” With more and more medical records being digitized, healthcare organizations need to be extremely vigilant in monitoring who is actually looking at files. This is critical for compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Additionally, the intelligence community has suffered several serious breaches over the past year, including the leak of over 200,000 documents by Edward Snowden, a former CIA employee, and NSA contractor. Such leaks would not trigger standard alerting mechanisms because nothing is being changed. However, with CimTrak’s ability to detect file reads, such action can be detected and investigated in a timely manner.
CimTrak’s new ability to actually prevent file modifications gives an alternative to its industry-leading “Restore” feature, which instantly reverts file changes. CimTrak is now the only integrity monitoring product with the capability to completely prevent changes to files. The capability is extremely useful for protecting critical system executables and other files that should not change outside of normal change control processes. This capability is especially useful in industrial applications such as SCADA systems used by electric utilities. According to a U.S. Congressional survey, released earlier this year, numerous utility companies reported that they routinely receive cyber threats, with one utility even reporting that it receives as many as 10,000 threats per month. By being able to prevent changes to key files and applications, utilities can effectively thwart attacks, ensuring uninterrupted power service. The ability to actually prevent file modifications also has applications in the retail space by preventing changes to point-of-sale systems as part of PCI-DSS compliance.
CimTrak version 2.0.6.17 also includes an updated report scheduler, which allows CimTrak users to more easily schedule reports. Also released in conjunction with this release is a newly redesigned CimTrak for Active Directory/ LDAP, which allows monitoring of Active Directory and LDAP settings.
- Key CimTrak features include Real-time file integrity monitoring on a wide range of operating systems.
- The ability to secure physical, virtual, and cloud-based IT environments of all sizes.
- Simple integration with all security information and event managers (SIEM) such as HP ArcSight, Q1 Labs QRadar, McAfee NitroView, and RSA enVision.
- Fast detection of IT security issues such as data breaches, zero-day attacks, and other malicious activity.
Cimcor pioneered file integrity monitoring technology for servers and has expanded its product lineup to include support integrity monitoring for a wide range of IT infrastructure including network devices, databases, Active Directory, and VMware. CimTrak software keeps organizations' valuable data secure and ensures compliance with directives such as PCI-DSS, which mandates file integrity monitoring.
